Musings about myself:

Who me? Why on earth would you want to know about me? I’m just another techno-misfit who spends way too much time on my computer and not enough time dealing with real life. I’m older than most of the people on LJ, and happily married with two brat cats. Hubby and I have both spent more years in college than you can count on your fingers, and have very little to show for it, other than womping student loan debts. Currently I’m working the in field of Public Health, but have in the past been a science teacher, lifeguard, fudge and candy maker, microbiologist, and have worked in an STD clinic and an ER. I can be quite opinionated and will talk your ear off on the subjects of environmental health, community health and sex-ed. Be forewarned, though, I love playing devil’s advocate and will sometimes argue a position I don’t fully agree with, just to see what comes of it. Must be the Libra in me; besides, it drives my BIL nuts.

In my free time I am a voracious reader, preferring science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction, though I will read just about anything. I have dabbled a bit in fanfic writing; many moons ago in college it was Star Trek and Lord of the Rings, these days I mostly stay in the realm of Harry Potter. Currently I have a couple microscopic ficlets posted at SycophantHex:

Since I am in the process of teaching myself Photoshop, many of my icons are of my own creation. Those that aren’t are identified as such. Please ask me if you have a question.

A few comments about my LJ:

Anyone may feel free to friend me, and most likely I’ll friend you back. All I ask is if we haven’t interacted elsewhere, then please leave a comment somewhere letting me know who you are. My journal was created for fandom and escapism purposes, so I rarely get overtly serious in my scribblings. I do have some strongly held beliefs and opinions, though, and occasionally they will be expressed. Since I love a good debate, please feel free to disagree with me if you like – I just don’t like outright arguments or nastiness.

I am usually unaware of the majority of fandom and LJ wank. Since I tend to avoid the more confrontational sites, it’s unlikely at any given time that I’ll know who is fighting with whom, so please understand that I may have people on my f-list that you might not like from elsewhere, and most likely I’ll be completely unaware of it. Please don’t bring outside fights in here.

When Real Life gets hectic, I may not always be the best LJ friend. Often when I’m out of town I have limited internet access, so there may be days or weeks when I never look at LJ. Please understand that I may not be able to comment on other LJs, or will be very slow to respond sometimes. It’s never anything personal.
